SLAC SLAM 2023
2023 SLAC SLAM
Announcing the 2023 SLAC SLAM
The model is a poetry slam, but it is also an opportunity to break out of the lab and present your science projects to a broad audience. We will have a little festival on September 7, 2023 to view and rate the presentations. (Ice cream will be provided.) The top three winners receive cash awards and will advance up a ladder described below that ends in Washington.
Postdocs, RAs and staff with Ph.D. less than six years are eligible to compete. The specific request is to present a 3-minute talk (1 slide maximum) at the public level. Equal points will be given for scientific content and entertainment value. The more fun/entertainment/excitement you can put into the talk, the better the reception!
The top 3 presentations from SLAC will enter a Bay Area competition against peers from Lawrence Berkeley, Livermore, and Sandia National Labs. The winner of that competition will have a chance to go to Washington[CC1] for a national research slam on November 15. This will have congressional attention; it is sponsored by the bipartisan National Labs Caucus. Last year, the Bay Area SLAM winner was SLAC's Brendon Bullard. If all is true and just in the world, SLAC should win every year.
It is time to start planning your presentation. Feel free to bat ideas around your group, and ask summer interns to help with finding the right level of detail and swag.
The SLAC Public Lecture Committee will hold rehearsals and training in August.
